PONG

joypad

I feel fortunate to have grown up witnessing the development of video games. I recall the family’s unbranded version of PONG, a stick-tennis game which consisted of two white, up and down moveable lines and a single pixel that bounced around the screen at slight angle. It even had sound; a sound… We were all enthralled, glued to the black and white telly until the ball vanished off the screen never to be seen again.

Still while it lasted, it was something spectacular and it planted a seed. In my Paulyanna days I played many hours of Mariokart on the SNES (Nintendo) and now as a “should-act-my-age” adult I continue to pledge my allegiance to Nintendo; and them alone.

There is some relevance to my book, Mariokart gets a name-check. I now play Mariokart8.
